The Beginning

What The Fungus began as a love for foraging and a passion for mushrooms. Vaughan and Katie, the founders of What The Fungus, have always had a deep appreciation for the natural world and the food it provides. They started by foraging for wild mushrooms in the forests of West Sussex and supplying them to local shops and restaurants.

Their foraging adventures eventually led them to the idea of starting their own mushroom farm, where they could cultivate and share their love for mushrooms with the local community. In 2020, they began their journey by setting up a small-scale operation in West Sussex.

They started with just a few varieties of mushrooms, but quickly expanded their offerings as they gained more experience and knowledge. Through trial and error, they honed their skills in organic and biodynamic farming techniques, and eventually grew to become one of the highest quality mushroom farmers in Sussex.

Despite their growth, they have never lost sight of their passion for sustainable and ethical practices. They continue to use organic and biodynamic farming techniques, and every mushroom is hand-picked with care to ensure it meets their high standards of quality. They take pride in growing their mushrooms without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or any other harmful chemicals, making them a healthy choice for any meal.

Today, What The Fungus is a thriving mushroom farm that is proud to support local businesses and provide the community with fresh, delicious, and sustainably grown mushrooms.
